NSC (non-structural carbohydrates) accumulate in pasture grass under conditions that slow plant growth while photosynthesis continues. This model applies research-based modifiers to a grass-mix baseline: diurnal curve (peaks ~2–4pm, lowest pre-dawn), temperature stress (cool nights + sunny days = high NSC), overnight low near-frost risk, cloud cover vs. sun, and precipitation dilution. Thresholds: <10% NSC generally safe for metabolic horses; 10–15% use caution; >15% avoid grazing. This is a management aid — not a substitute for pasture testing.
